Konga launches e-payment platform ‘Konga Pay’

If you shop on top international ecommerce websites such as Amazon and Aliexpress, you might have noticed that they have their own payment system which enables you buy stuff from their website without using debit cards e.g.AliPay. Konga launched its own payment system on April 26, 2016 named KongaPay, It is a secure payment platform which will enable Konga customers pay for goods without using debit or credit cards.
Konga has integrated Konga Pay with the internet banking portals of major banks in Nigeria to make this work, the participating banks are: Access Bank, Diamond Bank, Ecobank, FCMB, Fidelity Bank, First Bank, GTBank, Heritage Bank, Jaiz Bank, Keystone Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Skye Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Sterling Bank, UBA, Union Bank, Unity Bank, Wema Bank and Zenith Bank. When you register for KongaPay, your chosen bank account will be directly linked to your Konga account and the integration works regardless of the fact that your bank account is internet banking enabled or not.
At the launching ceremony, Konga.com’s CEO said “Konga is launching KongaPay payment solution because we want Nigerians and Africans at large to experience the best of service at their convenience. This means we constantly evolve to be more relevant to customers and society.”
Konga has been working on this idea for quite some time and in 2014, Konga allowed a payment feature called GTPay on their site which lets Guaranty Trust Bank customers pay for their items through bank transfer initiated from the Konga.com checkout cart. Konga Pay eliminates the whole bank transfer process and once a customer has it enabled, all he/she needs to do is to click the checkout button after shopping and then enter a one time password and the purchases will be paid for provided the customer has enough money in his/her account.
To register for KongaPay, you need an active Nigerian bank account and a registered phone number. You then set up your account by entering your full name, phone number, bank account details and date of birth and a one-time PIN which will be sent to you to verify your bank details. For every purchase using Konga Pay, your bank will send you a one time code by SMS to the phone number you registered with and that code must be entered before the purchase is completed. There will also be a one-click refund for orders that are cancelled by the seller or the buyer.
Konga is opening the service to non-Konga users also and is pioneering something called me-Commerce which lets you take a photo of any item you want to buy then generates a payment QR code for you which you can take to any participating merchant store and pay offline. You will also be able to share the generated QR code on your social media accounts which will enable payments on Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp , etc all through KongaPay.
I know you might be asking yourself “Why should I use Konga Pay?” instead of Pay on Delivery or your Debit card. Here are some good reasons:
  • Konga is offering a 5% discount on any item you use KongaPay to purchase.
  • You get an instant refund if your goods do not arrive, are damaged, or are substantially different from what was described.
  • It is secure because all transactions are solely between Konga and your bank, there are no third parties involved.
  • You are in absolute control of all your transactions as every transaction triggers a code directly from your bank.
